Very rarely in life or at least what I/we have discovered in our life so far, does anything that is a labor of love ever meets the imagine deadline planned for it. There are always unexpected interferences, detours and delays that come up. This is not unique to our experience or journey, if you are human, it is a common experience we all have from time to time in our pursuits of the things that we get up for in the morning. Many times over countless cups of Lang’s well crafted coffee, we have sipped and dreamed our way to creating music. So the story begins.
In the not too distant past, we were rehearsing with a band for an upcoming gig in our studio. After rehearsal we played some of our most recent music ideas for a guitar player friend of ours. He liked the new songs, but asked us if we’d ever thought of recording the songs with everyone playing their parts at the same time, like music “back in the day” was. That is when the inspiration to take that approach with our songs on our EP came to us. We really love playing our music live with a band and have countless times. There’s an unspoken but felt “magical” moment in which all the stars and the planets align on stage and that’s what happened for us in the studio with the world class musicians that interpreted, played and executed beautifully that ”magic” on our songs. That was 3 years ago in 2015 and is our first reason for our EP titled “3”.
The second reason for our title has to do with a surprising detour. Once we had gotten the songs recorded, things ended up on hold for a long while.It was during that time of frustration due to delay, that a long time supportive friend of ours approached us about taking some of our songs and having them remixed. Honestly at that point nothing was really moving forward with our record and we took a “we’ve tried everything else approach, so why not?” Looking back on that now, there was no way for us to predict that we would have one of our songs “No Apology,” remixed by well known DJ,s, being played all over the world in clubs and making it to #15 on Billboard’s Dance Chart. That detour lead to a lot of great things happening that eventually got us back on track to getting things ready to release “3.”
Our 3rd final reason has sentimental meanings for us personally than anything. Each music project is recorded version of our musical journey. This EP is our third record out of 3 we’ve recorded and released together. We started this musical journey quite a while ago. Our first record on Rex Records titled BlissBliss gave us our first #1 on CHR Chart, “Fight for Peace.” A lot of time passed, much more than we preferred and we recorded our second record titled “Life So Far,” on our on label, Diff’rent World Records. That brings us to now and how exciting it has been to have our oldest son playing bass with us both on our current EP and when we play out live.
3 years and 3 reasons later we came across a quote that really sums it up best for our overall journey;
“There are really three parts to the creative process. First there is inspiration, then there is the execution, and finally there is the release.” Eddie Van Halen
